SDSN and SDSN Youth

In 2012, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon launched the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) to mobilize global scientific and technological expertise to promote practical problem solving for sustainable development, including the design and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDSN is structured as a global network of universities, research centres, civil society organization, and other knowledge institutions to support the implementation of the SDGs. A strong commitment at the local level has been theorized as strategic for the achievement of solutions for global challenges. Accordingly several thematic and National/Regional Networks support the localization of SDGs and their implementation. Into this framework, SDSN Mediterranean is one of the SDSN Regional Networks and it is hosted by the University of Siena. It fosters global SDSN activities within the Mediterranean Area by developing and promoting knowledge, research, solutions, policies and public education.

SDSN Youth, launched in 2015, is the global youth division of the SDSN, a new initiative to amplify the tremendous energy and capabilities of youth in generating broader buy-in for the SDGs by mobilizing resources and building capacity to empower action. Through education and global cooperation, SDSN Youth provides a global platform to advocate for change and offer solutions for achieving the SDGs.
