University of Siena Sustainability course – third edition

On March 11, at 2 p.m., at the Santa Chiara Lab, will be held the first teaching lesson on Sustainability, now in its third edition: registrations are open to all.  

The course, structured in 24 lessons (March to June) aimed to analyzing the basic aspects related to the environment, the economy and social and legal-institutional sustainability, will feature lectures on the following topics: emerging pollutants, planetary boundaries and the water problem.  

Teaching is one of the free choice credits for all students of the University of Siena for your study program: the final exam (in test form) allows you to achieve 6 CFU.

Teacher responsible for the course is Professor Simone Bastianoni, Department of Physical Sciences, Earth and Environmental.

“The Sustainable Development Goals in the G20 Countries”

The Turkish SDSN is hosting a two-day high level workshop on the SDGs in the G20.  The workshop will discuss the challenges and opportunities that the SDGs in the G20 nations, and for the G20 as a cooperative governance process. Only two months after Heads of State and Government gathered in New York to approve the SDGs, one week ahead of the G20 meeting in Atalya, Turkey, and two weeks before the COP21 climate negotiations in Paris, this event will provide a crucial opportunity to discuss the role of the G20 countries in achieving the SDGs by 2030. The SDSN Networks from the G20 countries are partnering to find practical solutions, so participants should be ready for practical brainstorming and suggestions for action.

Meeting of Chairs of Mediterranean SDSN Regional and National Networks in NY

In the context of the 7th Annual SDSN Leadership Council Meeting, the Co-Chairs and Managers  of SDSN Regional and National Networks in the Mediterranean Region (Angelo Riccaboni from SDSN Mediterranean, Levent Kurnaz from SDSN Turkey, Miguel Angel Moratinos and Teresa Ribera from SDSN Spain/REDS and Phoebe Koundouri, that will co-chair the  upcoming SDSN Greece) met to exchange views on the future collaboration strategy of regional and national SDSNs in the MED area.

In particular, the meeting focused on issues such as the implementation of  SDGs in Mediterranean area, raising  awareness on SDGs in order to influence Mediterranean policy makers, collecting and fostering existing solutions initiatives and best practices in the Region and organisation of the 3rd International SDSN Mediterranean Conference to be hosted in Greece.

On September 21-25 2015, in the week of the adoption of SDGs by the UN General Assembly, SDSN is hosting the second professional training program for managers of National and Regional SDSN networks including SDSN Mediterranean and members of SDSN Youth. The program of the course covered topics such as advancing competencies on the management of organizational network, enhancing skills on fundraising of the networks, and outreach strategies for the SDSN Networks meeting the post 2015 Agenda.

 

Finalists and Winner of the Contest “Food&Water: International short film festival on sustainability”

UN SDSN Mediterranean and Visionaria International Film Festival presented at the Italian Pavilion of Expo 2015 an event entitled: “Food & Water: International short film festival on sustainability”

A series of 10 short films on the theme Food & Water, finalists of the Visionaria International competition, have been viewed by the public of Expo in Milan and judged by a jury composed by Prof. Riccaboni (Chair of the SDSN Mediterranean), Claudio Rossi (Professor of Agriculture and Food Chemistry, University of Siena) and Carlo Emilio Sapia (photographer and filmmaker).
